August Computer Classes offered at Utica Pulic Library
Computer classes and private technology training continues to be available free to the public through the summer at Utica Public Library, 303 Genesee St. Private tutoring is available by calling 735-2279, ext. 219.
Computer classes and drop-in sessions being offered in August are as follows:
Drop-In Computer Help – 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, and from 3 to 4:45 p.m. Saturdays, with the exception of Aug. 22.
Introduction to Microsoft Word – 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 10 and 11.
Introduction to Microsoft Access – 10:30 a.m. to noon from Monday, Aug. 17, through Thursday, Aug. 20.
Advanced Microsoft Word – 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Aug. 24,
25 and 27.

Google Drive/Docs – 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24. This class will cover how to store files and create new documents on the Cloud with Google Drive. Learn how Google Drive can help you collaborate on projects and organize your work. Participants will need to create or have a pre-existing Gmail account before taking this class.

All classes will take place in the library’s fourth floor computer training room.
Registration is required for all of the following classes except Drop-In Computer Help.

July Computer Classes offered at Utica Pulic Library
The Utica Public Library, 303 Genesee St., offers the following computer classes:

■ Drop-In Computer Help is from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and from 3 to 4:45 p.m. Saturdays. Get one-on-one assistance. No classes will take place July 4 and 18.

■ Keyboarding, 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 2.

■ Introduction to Microsoft Excel, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, July 6, 7 and 9.

■ Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint, 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday and Friday, July 9-10.

■ Computer Fundamentals, 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday and Tuesday, July 13-14.

■ Advanced Microsoft Excel, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, July 20, 21 and 23.

■ iPad Basics, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 25. Learn to manage and download apps, access Wi-Fi, use the camera, and browse the web.

Classes will take place in the library’s fourth-floor computer training room.


Jervis Public Library Adult Reading Program, at 613 N. Washington St., will begin its summer reading program for adults.

Starting Monday, June 29, through Friday, Aug. 14, for every book read, participants earn a chance to win one of several Shop Rome First gift certificates.

In addition, for completing specific activities related to their reading, participants earn a chance to win a Kindle Fire HD. These activities include writing a review, submitting a photo of the participant reading the book, and attending a Jervis Library summer program intended for adults.

The grand prize drawing will take place Monday, Aug. 17.

The adult summer reading program is open to anyone 18 and older. There is a limit of two prizes per person.

Players of Utica Youth Acting 

Players of Utica is offering a summer acting workshop for children as part of its Theater Arts Program at Players program.

Instructors Barb Pratt and Pat Stone will be teaching acting technique, stage presence, voice, speech and movement, among other lessons.

Young actors will have the opportunity to broaden their talent, enhance their stage skills and participate in theater games and improvisation exercises.

Players is offering the following two classes this summer:

■ Ages 10 to 13 (including rising 6th graders) will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

■ Ages 14 to 17 (including rising 9th graders) will be from 1 to 4 p.m.

The workshop will run from Monday, June 29, through Friday, July 17. There will be no class July 3.
